Lots of fun things to do - husband is gone for the day, he went to the Dolphin / Charger game in San Diego. Just me and my boy today. Looks like it's going to be sunny out - yay!!

I took a wonderful class with Mary Ann Moss called Full Tilt Boogie - she taught me how to make journals by hand using a coptic stitch, chain stitch and a few others. And I am hooked! Here are a few I've made in past couple of weeks.

I even added cabinet cards to my journal. I am going to use this beautiful journal for my 2011 scrapbook journal - I call it my "scrap journal"

Valance out of fabric strips

I needed a valance over my art table on my balcony to help with the afternoon sun. I had some canvas that I had bought some time ago — thinking I would paint on it. I did try painting on it — it's not my thing.

So I started ripping it into strips and putting it on this curtain rod and voila a very shabby chic valance.

Hello out there in Blog land - I have so much to tell you! I've been busy busy, so many changes in my life all positive ones.

I quit my full time job about a month ago to stay home with my son, I am keeping my part time job only so I am just working 8 to 10 hours a week. I have worked a full time job since I was 16 years old so this is a huge change for me. I no longer have a schedule and am at times a bit lost with the time and days but I am enjoying every minute of being a mom at home.

I was commissioned to make some baby shower invitations along with helping with the decorations and such for the baby shower - I will try to remember to take pictures of the baby shower decorations and such.

I also made some thank you cards for mom to be.

I was in a post card swap with ihanna - below are some photos of the postcards I sent out - I used a federal express envelope for the base and my painted papers collaged onto the base

I also spent a few days redecorating my home, I didn't have enough color - I went to pier one imports and got what I needed to really make the house come together with color and whimsical touches.

Scrap Journal

I love file folders, with a plain vanilla folder I took some of the artwork from the first Art Journaling magazine that was published and I decoupaged the artwork on it the outside of the folder. Then I put in some blank pages, threw on some paint, photos and journaling. I am going to start another one of these 'scrap journals" for 2011. I call it a scrap journal as it's a combo of both, my photos and journaling.

Here are just a few pages I've started.

I made some others decoupaged folders with stitching - I will show them in a few days.

Gift for mom

I decided Saturday morning that i wanted to make something for my mom as a belated birthday gift.
We had already celebrated her birthday as a family, but Saturday afternoon mom and I were having lunch with my Aunt and cousin. We were going to Neiman Marcus, Fashion Island for a classy lady's lunch. I remember having these sorts of lunches with my Aunt Margie and my mom when Bullocks was around years and years ago.
Anyways here is what I did for mom in stages.
My first time working on canvas, these are all and skinny canvases I got at Michales last week. I started with sort of a paper doll lay out. Cutting out her head and top part of her body then adding papers and such.

Below is mom with her gift.

I added flowers to her hair and grunged it up a bit with tital buff paint.

On my day off yesterday I practiced my drawing. Tami at willowing.ning offers a free class, She is teaching me how to draw noses and more realistic faces. Takes lots of practice like more things.

My son's football team made to the national championships in Florida - they are there now. i didn't get to go - insert a very sad face here - my husband went (he's one of the coaches on the team) This is a HUGE deal in Pop Warner, a coaches goal and dream. The beginning of the season our Coach Tim said "we are going all the way" - yea yea we said - he proved us wrong, we would win game after game. Very exciting season and now they are 1 in 8 teams Jr Pee Wee to go to Florida to play for the National Championship.
They had their first game yesterday against Texas and we won - 32 to 7 - woo hoo!! I screamed when my husband called with the final score. I am so proud of my son and every boy on the team, they are all such good players.

We have another game Tuesday then the final game Friday.

I will keep you all posted on what happens Tuesday

I have a plan and a goal - I'm very excited and I hope everything falls into place. I think that if it's meant to be everything falls into place without much effort.
I want to share with you my art studio - it's not your typically space but it's my space and I truly love everything about it. I can't work in a room with 4 walls staring at me - I feel too closed in, too confined. I tried working in a room dedicated to my art workings but I was so uninspired - I'd sit at the desk and just think, what is wrong with this room. I would change the position of the desk, change things on the wall etc. but no matter what I did it just didn't work for me.
But now.....
My space is a balcony off our master bedroom. I have a beautiful view of the of the mountains.

And this beautiful tree!!

Above is an antique piece I saw at a garage sale yesterday, as we passed by on our way to football practice I noticed it and said "0000000h I would love to have that" - later on still thinking about the piece I said again within Husband's earshot - "ooh i think i would like to have the piece we saw earlier today for my art area" - but then thinking that i would probably be gone by the time we got home. When we drove through the neighborhood on our way home there it still was and marked down. I didn't stop to look at it my son was tired and wanted to get home. So i just put it out of my mind - sort of. But when my husband returned from costco he said "I'll be right back" - and guess what?????

YES - he went and got it for me - woo hoo!!!!

I love it! yes it's missing a handle and the paint is all chipped and old and that is exactly what i LOVE about it.

You can see here my desk and supplies I had to put up some drapes not only cuz they look cute but to block the sun in the late afternoon and to block the wind.

A big wood chair that i sit in for journaling, or reading. I can look out over the balcony at the beautiful view i have over Yorba Linda.

My balcony ART studio is coming together slowly but I do love everything about it so far.

That is Lucy's bed under my chair.

Friday afternoon and I can’t wait to get home

I will try to take several photos so you can see the process

I often change my mind on the colors and do something else entirely

I turn on my music, get something soothing to drink and just let my creative side flow. I could have stayed up all night last night to work on her but I have a job to go to in the morning – ugh so I couldn’t – but tonight I can – woo hoo!!

Hope the weather is nice this weekend so I can sit outside to paint – keep your fingers crossed.

I've been friends with these two girls since 4th grade. It was always the three of us together. We lost touch until about 10 tens ago where I reconnected with Colleen she is in the black shirt. She has triplets the same age as my son. And Susan in the green/blue shirt I got in touch with via her daughter on facebook about 2 1/2 years ago. We haven't all three been together since high school. Colleen and Susan haven't seen each other since high school. We had so much fun together - we will keep in touch from this day forward.

Our Home Book

I put this "Our home" book together this afternoon with photos of our new house. I used Teresa Collins papers and ribbons. I am going to sit down tomorrow night in front of the TV and do my journaling. I really enjoy using Teresa's papers, they are so easy to put together with all the tags and goodies she has that match. My camera isn't the best but you'll get the idea.

Yesterday morning I went outside to paint - this is the view from the balcony off my bedroom. I sat outside for as long as I could - it got too cold. This is going to be such a wonderful place for me to paint when it warms up.

The view is such an inspiration, I can see the dogs below, hear the birds, and enjoy the view.

Lists Lists and more Lists

I am a HUGE list maker - there are lists everywhere. My to do list, my want list, a wish list, a home list, list for the mall, and a birthday gift list - I have always keeps lists. It helps me clear my head, I can't possibility remember everything and I write it down that way I feel like my brain has been cleared. I have these "lists" everywhere, in my purse, my desk, my art room - too many lists. I should make a journal out of all these lists.

Good Morning - Me, my cousin, other cousin and aunt are taking mum for tea today in Old Town Orange for her birthday which is tomorrow, she's a Valentine's baby. She has a day full of celebration, after our tea I am throwing her a birthday party at my house - just family, all 15 of us. She wants a mexican fiesta so bring on the enchiladas, homemade chips with guacamole and margaritas.

Changing my blog title

Hi everyone -
I have changed the name of my blog.
I've never been that comfortable with my blog title - it was okay for a few years but for whatever reason I thought it was sort of negative - and I have always liked what I had written under the title which was "making things pretty" which came from a friend of mine - he suggested it. And now I've finally decided to change the title to what I've always wanted to be - and I like change.
I'm hoping "making things pretty" inspires me - one never knows until she tries. I have lots of lists going right now - time to get busy.

50th Anniversary Party

This are the vases I ordered and used for the party - I wanted something simple, elegant and pretty. I also wanted my guests to be able to talk to one another across the table - my vases are only 12 inches high verses 19 inches high. If I would have ordered these flowers put together from the florist it would have been $89 each - ouch! I did them myself for about 1/2 - in this photo you see pin frogs on the bottom of the vases. I ended up taking them out as I think they are ugly and I didn't need them. I put 12 inches of orchids in each vases with some lilly grasses at the bottom - they were perfect! We also put some small isles on the tables with photos of my parents wedding - simple and a very cute idea. I loved organizing and putting the party together. My husband who DJ's on the side did the music, we put together a side show that was played durning dinner - everyone loved that too. I was an awesome party and I was thanked several times by guests for inviting them and was told how lovely everything was - We had it at Blackgold Golf Course - Julie Spencer is the banquet manger and she was a doll to work with - the food was excellent. If you have an event to plan I suggest checking Blackgold Golf Course out.

I will post more photos as they come in from family and friends.

I'm still working on my inside pages, I really enjoyed making the cover - after I took this picture I went back over my stitches with a bright pink - I'll take another photo later. Not much of a sewer - so i thought. But i have really enjoyed sewing this journal cover, even went out to by a new sewing machine. Her style is free n easy, sort of shabby - just the way I do things.

To Do List January 2nd

2nd day of January - my to do list for today:
Go to mainly seconds in Orange to get some house plants - need something big next to the fireplace in the living room - there is a big bare spot

Have to get the table from mom's - it's a long serving type table that belonged to my great grandmother, I just love the piece because it belonged to her, thought it would work well for a "bar" when I have guesses over for either drinks or coffee - or as a serving area next to the table - once the table is here I will take a photo to show you.

Nordstrom with mom - we have a BIG party at the end of the month and mom needs a new outfit to wear. Me and my two brothers are giving my folks a 50th wedding anniversary party with 80 guests so of course mom wants to look fabulous.

Need printable postcards from Staples - have to print and send out reminder cards for the party.

I'm using this photo for the front of the postcard - isn't it an awesome photo?

This afternoon i am spending time with a friend, we are going to go see a movie just not sure what one, there are several I want to see.

Trying to post something everyday as one of my goals for 2010 (one of many goals that I have).

I'm excited for 2010 - I have some goals and plans for this year.

There isn't anything more relaxing than sitting on my patio with either a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening and looking at this view. I think what I enjoy most about looking over the ocean, is the space - the lack of buildings in front of me, SPACE is a wonderful feeling. Listening to the birds is music to my ears and there are a lot of birds is this huge yard.

I've been so busy

I have nothing to end the month with - sorry.
I've been so busy with football games and practice - but I will have lots of stuff for October - I've started some "girlfriend" books for my girlfriends for Christmas, I've got a lot of ideas in my head for holiday gifts and hopefully something to inspire someone out there -

I've very excited it's fall and our weather is cooling down - love to take walks when the weather cools.
Love the falls clothes too - boots, sweaters, and long skirts - although I've been thinking about pencil skirts lately, I think they are professional and sexy.

And Halloween is coming - woo hoo!!!!!!

I have a new look - I'm still trying to figure all this out. I've been working on this all afternoon, after I took a very long nap - I've been home ill today. My throat is killing me and I don't have much of a voice. A good day to work on my blog, something I've been putting off for months.
